I began working at a large bay area company at the age of 19 while they put me through school (Corporate/International Finance and Accounting). As soon as they let me, I started the profit sharing plan (company stock). As a single mom of two children I wasn’t saving anything else for quite a few years. Eventually I contributed to their 401K plan. I went through quite a few advisors before retiring at 52 and settling on one conservative broker for 15 years. Then I discovered the South Bay Bogleheads group three years ago. My life is very simple – all finances self-directed in one place with a three fund portfolio strategy and a fee-based advisor. I stay active with friends, family, a variety of activities (hiking, walking, biking, exercise classes, day trips, workshops & more), and volunteering with various organizations.
